Everlast Sold

Sports Direct, the retailer that owns the Sports World chain and the Lillywhites store in the UK, has snapped up Everlast, the iconic American boxing glove manufacturer, for £84m.

The deal is designed to help Sports Direct, which currently does little business in America, break into the lucrative US sportswear market.

The Sports Direct board has agreed to pay $30 per share for Everlast, the Nasdaq-listed maker of boxing apparel, which values the company at $168m, inclusive of debt.

Sports Direct already own many brands including Lonsdale, although the boxing specific division is run separately to in store clothing by he team behind Title UK(also acquired by Sports Direct). We expect to see Everlast run the same way in the U.K……………..

02 Public Workout

Boxing stars Amir Khan, Nicky Cook, Kevin Mitchell and Anthony Small will hit London for a public workout on Friday 29th June in the build up to their big night next month at the O2 Arena.

The hotshots of British boxing will all go through a series of punishing work-outs with their trainers as they show fight fans what is in store when they feature on the first ever World Championship Boxing event to be staged at the fabulous 02 Arena on Saturday 14th July.

Cook headlines the ‘London’s Burning’ show when he challenges top American Steve Luevano for the Vacant WBO World Featherweight Championship. Chief support features Khan challenging for Willie Limond’s Commonwealth crown and his big rival Kevin Mitchell defending his IBF Intercontinental Super-Featherweight title and challenging for the Vacant WBO Intercontinental against tough Russian Alexander Hrulev. Londoner Anthony Small takes on Welsh scrapper Bradley Pryce in what is set to be a real tear up plus a top quality supporting card.

The work-out is open to the public and is free to attend and all boxers will meet with fans, sign autographs and pose for photos after their work-outs.

TBS Promotions Present….

TBS Promotions present an evening of boxing at the Hippodrome, Colchester High Street. Doors Open 6.30pm Limited Tickets left on the door. It’s a great 3 fight bill with Lee Purdy fighting over 10 rounds for the British Masters.

It will be a great show with special memorabilia up for auction. The Colchester area has been lacking in Boxing Promotions and TBS plan to make it a regular event, which is great news for the boxing fans in the area. We will see you there.

Sprott V Skelton Back on…..

it’s already a heavyweight card with a staggering seven titles on the line but the 02 Arena show on Saturday 14th July is now a real heavyweight show with the addition of big boys Matt Skelton and Michael Sprott.

The pair were due to meet last month at the Excel but Sprott withdrew from the fight due to an injury and they will now clash on the mega show alongside WBO World title challenger Nicky Cook and Olympic Silver Medallist Amir Khan.

Nicky was down last week looking very fit, his opponent only has one loss and is an ex golden gloves winner and former stand by for the Olympics, but we expect Nicky’s Body shots to be to much and Nicky to be a World Champion late evening July 14th.

After many years hard work and losing his WBC No 1 Contender ranking for taking the Scott Harrison fight, only for Scott to pull out, it is long overdue. Nicky is now with Frank Warren and has finaly got the fight he deserves.

All at Sugar Ray’s wish Nicky all the best.
