Cross-Fit is a core strength and conditioning program developed by Coach Greg Glassman over several decades. The idea is that general physical preparedness (GPP) is the ‘best fit’ training model for the majority of the people and is true to the real demands of life, to prepare the body for the unexpected.

Exercses used are ones that advance athletic development quickly think sprint’s, push, pull, lunge, jump, throw mixed in with interval style training. As a sport Crossfit combines strongman, track and field, powerlifting, core training, gymnastics, endurance events and Oympic weight lifting.

Because Cross Fit is so varied a CrossFitter will likely never do the same routine twice in one week and each workout will usually last between 45 minutes to an hour. Although crossfit is an individual sport about bettering ones results or competing against others in crossfit style games, the crossfit community is a big part of the training, people that go love the communal environment of this workout regimen.

Crossfit is as popular with Women as Men becuase of the feminine shape it give’s you, while still building muscle and strength. A squatters bum has become a sign of hard work and dedication in the gym. All this and more makes Cross fit one of the most varied workouts around that gives you value for money, improved training results and a varied workout.

Having the right crossfit shoes is essential for the sport. Many people use to wear weightlifting shoes such as adidas adipower or adidas Powerperfect . These are particularly good for the heavy lifting aspect of Crossfit and any one that spends time in the gym lifting free weights and doing exercises such as squats, Dead Lifts, Shrugs etc will benefit from the solid flat stable sole that weight lifting shoes offer. Weightlifting shoes are also essential for powerlifting event’s such as the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. You would normally find people training in these shoes and then using a Cross Fit Shoe such as the adidas powerlift 2.0 these are perfect for crossfit with their lower height heel platform’s, that still offer stability while being easier to maneuver than higher platform training shoes.

Brands such as Inov-8 have developed shoes that are perfect for all round cross fit training and competing as they have very flat and stable sole unit’s. Not the big cushioned sole units used by many running and training shoes. These shoes rely on the runner’s feet and legs being strong and doing the work not the motion of the shoe. New Balance also have a range of Minimus footwear with low and stable sole units, designed with cross fit and gym training in mind.

Clothing used to compete will vary from Weightlifting suits or Compression clothing to help support you, keep you warm and dry, preventing injuries.
